Born in Wales, award-winning presenter Jason Roberts spent the first six years of his life travelling the world, his father employed by British Airways at the time. After a year in Portugal, six months in both Kenya and Ceylon (Sri Lanka), the family settled in South Africa, soon after the Soweto Riots of 1976.
Raised and educated in South Africa, Jason started acting part-time, appearing in six films, two stage productions and three television series before he was twenty-one.
Although set to qualify as an Actuary at the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg), Jason was lured away by the bright lights of showbiz at the age of nineteen. In the following seven years, he hosted a variety of television shows and live event specials, became a DJ for the country’s number one, music radio station (5FM) and continued his interest in acting, starring in four series for SA television. On the sporting front, Jason worked as a commentator on the Windsurfing World Tour and due to his further commentating experience on the South African Beach Volleyball Tour, was invited to fill the role of Assistant Producer at the sport's debut medal appearance at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996.
During that time, shortly after the death of his mother to cancer in November 1994, Jason chose to relocate to London in order to pursue his love of presenting. Since then, he has anchored entertainment news for NBC Europe, worked as a sports commentator for Eurosport, presented for BBC’s ‘Holiday’, National Geographic’s ‘Explorer’s Journal’ and was the voice for BBC Worldwide’s ‘Wild Spirits’ and ‘World Yachting’ series. He remains an international, entertainment correspondent for SA Television.
In January of 2001, Jason was contracted to E! Entertainment Television (USA), hosting a 13-hour series entitled ‘Royalty A-Z’. The series aired in America in August 2002.
In July 2002, Jason renewed his relationship with The Travel Channel, joining them as an anchor for its station,'Thomson TV' .
A dedicated ‘action-man’, Jason is a keen SCUBA diver (NAUI advanced qualification), snow skier, cyclist and rock climber. He lives currently in Chamonix in the French Alps with his wife, Lisa.
